Ravinia sets 2013-14 Bennett Gordon lineup

With 14 concerts still remaining in its summer Bennett Gordon Hall series, Ravinia has gone ahead and announced the schedule for the series’ continuation in fall, winter and spring of 2013-14.

Leading off the “$10 BGH Classics” lineup on Nov. 2 will be violinist Benjamin Beilman, a 2012 Avery Fisher Career Grant honoree. The conductor-less ensemble A Far Cry will return to Ravinia Nov. 16 for a varied program of Ives, Gershwin, Dvorak and the Chicago premieres of works by Kip Jones and Ljova.

Broadway and “Glee” performer Jonathan Groff, accompanied by Mary-Mitchell Campbell, will present an evening of Broadway show tunes on Dec. 7. The Chicago Children’s Choir will give matinee and evening performances of its holiday program on Dec. 14. Another potpourri of seasonal fare will be presented by the quintet Boston Brass, in its Ravinia debut, Dec. 21.

The chamber ensemble Musicians from Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute will make its annual series appearance March 22, playing works for piano and strings by Haydn, Schubert and David Ludwig. The Midwest premiere of Caroline Shaw’s Pulitzer Prize-winning “Partita for Eight Voices” will be given March 29 by Roomful of Teeth, the a cappella ensemble for which the piece was written.

Rounding out the series will be a concert and album-release party by Chicago Jazz Orchestra trumpeter Marquis Hill and his ensemble, April 12.

Reserved seats are $10; 847-266-5012, ravinia.org.
