Zach Timm, Maine South

Football, basketball, track and field

Class rank: 17 of 624.
College: Southern Cal. One of my dad's really good friends who I have grown up around went there and always talked so highly of it. When I researched it more I found a lot of things I'm very active in, like community-service projects. Plus the weather is beautiful, and they gave me a four-year, full-tuition academic scholarship.
Major: Undecided.
Dream job: Playing for the Bears.
Role models: I have a lot, and I really look up to everyone in my family, parents, siblings, aunts and uncles, etc. Another is my church's old youth pastor, Stephen Cady, for all his hard work and positive energy no matter what the situation. However, my biggest role model is my grandfather on my mother's side. He was living in Poland during World War I and taken from his home by the Nazis when he was only 13 or 14 years old and put into a forced-labor camp. He survived and moved to America upon receiving his freedom. Any time I ever think something is tough, I look to him for strength. I think, "If he survived the Holocaust, I can survive this." He was an inspiration to me at all times, even if he never knew it. His determination and the hard work it must have taken to survive motivate me every day, whether it's on the field, in the classroom or in any other part of my life.
Favorite movie: It's really hard to narrow down because every genre brings something different, but if I had to choose it would be "300," because it has the pump-up action, is inspiring and has a little love thrown in. Plus, it's based on a true story.
Favorite TV show: "Heroes."
Pet: A black Lab named Maggie.
Last book you read for fun: "Brisingr."
Favorite sporting event: Football games. I have Bears season tickets and I love it.
MySpace, Facebook or Twitter: Facebook, but I'm not on that often anymore.
Fave 1: My girlfriend, Lauren.
Cubs or White Sox: Cubs all the way.
Hobbies: Anything from computer games to pick-up sports with my friends to watching movies to just sitting around a bonfire talking.
Best high school sports memory: Celebrating with my team after winning the Class 8A football championship this past fall--winning my senior year with kids I have been playing with for years. It was an amazing experience that I will never forget.
One word to describe your high school experience: Unforgettable.
