A 44-year-old man was critically injured when three men got into a fight with him and beat him on a Lakeview street early this morning, police said.
The man was beaten in the 3300 block of North Halsted Street about 5:50 a.m. and was being treated in critical-but-stable condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center this morning, said Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala.
The man was walking near Halsted and Roscoe Avenue when the three men came up to him and one of them knocked his cell phone to ground, police said. He started arguing with the three, and they jumped on him, then beat and kicked him.
Following the beating, the three fled south on Halsted Street, Zala said.
The three attackers were all described as black men in their early 20s with black hair and brown eyes. One was about 5 feet 4 inches, weighing about 145 pounds, with short-cut hair and wearing a blue jacket; a second stood about 5 feet 9 inches, weighed about 180 with short-cut hair, and was wearing a purple do-rag and black pants; the third stood about 6 feet 1 inches, had dreadlocks and weighed about 220 pounds and was wearing a brown jacket and blue jeans.
