Police in far north suburban Round Lake Beach are investigating the death of a 4-month-old baby girl.
An autopsy was performed this afternoon on Lilyanna Bateman, 5-months-old, of the 1600 block of Juneway Terrace, in Round Lake Beach.
“No outward signs of violence or trauma were discovered,” said Lake County Coroner Artis Yancey. The cause of death at this time is undetermined, however the medical examiner “could not rule out suffocation due to layover,” Yancey said.
The results of toxicology tests are also pending, he said. The baby was pronounced dead at home at about 10 a.m. today.
Round Lake Beach police said earlier today that were in the “very early stages” of their probe and that no one was in custody.
“We are just taking statements and just trying to figure out what happened ourselves,” he said, declining to identify the baby or say where or when the child died.
George Filenko, the chief of neighboring Round Lake Park and the head of the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, confirmed that the task force has been brought in to investigate.
