A Highland Park man has been charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl, law enforcement officials said.
Victor De Yta-Morales, 43, of the 600 block of Glenview Avenue, was taken into custody in the early morning hours of May 9. Bond in Lake County Circuit Court was set at $500,000, but De Yta-Morales was unable to post the required 10 percent as of earlier this week.
State’s Attorney spokeswoman Cynthia Trujillo said statements at the bond hearing were that De Yta-Morales had used physical contact and Facebook messages to manipulate the victim into performing sexual acts on several occasions. Trujillo said De Yta-Morales admitted he gave the girl $10 on two occasions after the sex acts, asking her not to tell anyone.
Trujillo said the victim’s statements at the bond hearing differed, in that the defendant “grabbed her numerous times and she gave him oral sex, regularly on weekends”.
Authorities said the initial police call, shortly after midnight on May 9, was made after the victim’s mother had learned of the assaults from her daughter’s Facebook messages, confronted De Yta-Morales and struck him on the head with his own mobile phone, causing minor injury.
The victim was interviewed at Lake County Children’s Advocacy Center in Gurnee and the Department of Children and Family Services notified, said Deputy Police Chief George Pfutzenreuter. The victim was examined by a physician.
De Yta-Morales’ next scheduled court appearance is on June 3.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
