'The Satanic Verses'

A Muslim protester holding an anti-Salman Rushdie placard during a demonstration in front of the British High Commission building in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Former Iranian religious leader Ayatollah Khomeini declared a fatwa (a religious verdict demanding his death) against British-Inidian writer Salman Rushdie in 1989. The fatwa was issued after Rushdie's novel 'The Satanic Verses' sparked outrage among Muslims.
