Blind Boys of Alabama

The Venue is offering up a traditional African-American Sunday for Black History Month, with down-home gospel by the Blind Boys of Alabama and a Southern-style buffet. The Grammy-winning group -- with a Lifetime Achievement Award, among others -- has performed for five presidents. The Blind Boys recently recorded their first country-gospel album, "Take the High Road," which features many of the biggies -- Willie Nelson, Vince Gill, Lee Ann Womack, Hank Williams Jr., the Oak Ridge Boys and Jamey Johnson. (Johnson also co-produced.)

Why go: Whatever month it is, you need to check out the Blind Boys, who can still make the crowd feel the spirit all these many decades later.

Reconsider: You may have to miss even the early church service to make it to this event on time.

Details: 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Venue, Horseshoe Casino, 777 Casino Center Drive, Hammond, Ind.; $40 (21+); 800-745-3000, ticketmaster.com
