An off-duty Cook County sheriff's deputy was hospitalized in serious condition this morning when his motorcycle was sideswiped by a passing truck on the Dan Ryan Expressway, authorities said.
The collision happened on the southbound express lanes near the 63rd Street exit sometime before 2 a.m., authorities said.
The unidentified officer was headed south when a black pickup truck clipped his motorcycle, dumping the rider to the roadway, according to Illinois State Police.
The pickup continued without stopping, authorities said.
The officer was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was being treated for his injuries, which were not believed life-threatening. Early reports stated the officer suffered bumps and scrapes from the collision and at least one broken rib, state police said.
Authorities didn't immediately have a detailed description of the truck or its driver.
