Murdered woman's brother charged with identity theft

Special to the Tribune

The brother of a murdered Naperville woman was booked into the Will County Adult Detention Facility Friday on a charge of identity theft.

Mark R. Lewis, 51, of Lakemoor, Fla. was extradited to Illinois following his July 14 arrest by sheriff's police in Florida on the identity-theft charge, which alleges he passed fraudulent checks worth more than $2,000 from his mother's bank account on June 7.

Naperville Police also want to learn what Lewis knows about the beating death of 59-year-old Cathleen Lewis, whose body was found June 8 in her townhouse during a wellness check. She died from multiple head wounds.

Naperville Police suspect she knew her attacker because there were no signs of forced entry, but declined to call Mark Lewis a suspect.

He remained in the Will County Adult Detention Facility Sunday afternoon in lieu of $200,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday, according to jail records.
