An Elgin man was killed this morning after his speeding motorcycle collided with a semitrailer-tractor truck near the Kane County Cougars stadium entrance, according to Kane County Sheriff’s police.
About 7 a.m., a motorcycle driven by Eric Mondragon, 27, was southbound “at a high rate of speed” on Kirk Road when it struck a semi-truck turning north onto the road from Cherry Lane at the entrance to the stadium just outside Geneva, police said.
Mondragon was thrown from the motorcycle, which was found about 200 yards away, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene and was wearing a helmet, police said.
The Wisconsin man driving the truck was not injured.
A portion of Kirk Road was closed for about 3 ½ hours following the crash.
