Two men died in separate overnight motorcycle crashes, on in Chicago and the other in a west suburb, authorities said.
David Alvarado, 30, crashed near Melrose Street and Laramie Avenue in the Cragin neighborhood about 9:55 p.m. He was pronounced dead about 10:40 p.m. at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
The motorcycle rider was heading north on Laramie at high speed when he struck another vehicle and was thrown from the motorcycle, Police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada. The other vehicle, a 1998 Cadillac, was headed south on Laramie, trying to make a left turn onto Melrose, when the motorcycle hit the Cadillac, Estrada said.
The driver of the Cadillac, Richard Gutierrez, 21, of the 5100 block of West Fletcher Street, was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failing to carry or display a driver's licsense and driving without insurance, Estrada said.
No one in the Cadillac was believed to have been injured. Gutierrez is scheduled to appear in Cook County Traffic Court on Nov. 8.
In Schiller Park about midnight, 41-year-old Juan Colon crashed at Irving Park Road and River Road. Colon was pronounced dead at the scene about 12:07 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Colon was involved in a single-vehicel crash, Schiller Park Police Cmdr. Ed Ladonsky said in an email. Colon was headed north in teh 4200 block of River Road when the motorcycle left the road at 11:56 p.m. Thursday, Ladonsky said.
Colon lived in the 9800 block of Linn Avenue in Schiller Park.
The cause of each crash is under investigation, police said.
