A Midlothian man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the Thursday shooting death of a man in south suburban Harvey.

Dashonti Wiley, 39, was charged today with murder and scheduled to appear in Bond Court Saturday, police said in a press release Friday afternoon.

About 3 p.m. Thursday, Harvey police responded to a call of shots fired near the area of 152nd Street and Vine Avenue, according to the release. Officers discovered a 19-year-old man who had been shot, the release said.

The man was taken to Ingalls Hospital in Harvey where he was pronounced dead at 4:04 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. The man was identified as Keithen Rupert of the 15800 block of Myrtle Avenue in Harvey.

Police said the shooting was a result of an earlier altercation between Wiley and Rupert, the release said.
