Chicago reacts to assassination

As he walked through O'Hare Airport on April 5, 1968, civil rights leader and minister Jesse Jackson held a copy of the Chicago Daily Defender newspaper which featured the headline 'King Murdered!' The headline referred to the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. the day before, on the evening of April 4, with Jackson at his side.
