Cubs manager Mike Quade said the “timetable is open-ended” for the return of closer Carlos Marmol, who threw a short session in the bullpen before Saturday’s game.
Marmol is spending time working on mechanics with pitching coach Mark Riggins after retiring only one of nine batters Thursday and Friday.
“He’s disappointed and frustrated,” Quade said. “He’s good. If you’re good and you go through this, it’s not easy. It’ll probably be tough on him but he’ll be the same guy he has been at some point.”
“(The problem’s) very simple and he’s positive and he’s going to be same old Carlos here real soon,” Riggins said.
