An Indonesian man visiting Kane County from Australia is charged with sexually assaulting a woman at a St. Charles conference center, police said Thursday.

Jefry Sutjito, 24, of Melbourne, faces two counts of criminal sexual assault and single counts of attempted criminal sexual assault and criminal sexual abuse in an incident earlier this week, police said.

About 10:15 a.m. Monday, police responded to a dorm room at the Q Center, 1405 N. Fifth Ave., where a 22-year-old said Sutjito assaulted her. The two were both at the center for a four-week training class, police said.

Although Sutjito was taken into custody Monday, charges were authorized Wednesday, police said.

Sutjito remains in Kane County jail, held in lieu of $500,000 bail. Although he lives in Australia, police said he’s a citizen of Indonesia.

The Indonesian consulate was notified, and a Kane County judge ordered Sutjito to surrender his passport. He’s due in court next on Oct. 11.
