A man was killed by a hit-and-run driver on the South Side on an overpass above the Stevenson Expressway early this morning, according to Chicago police.

The man, later identified by the Cook County medical examiner's office as Robert Butler, 51, of the 3800 block of Butterfield Road in west suburban Bellwood, died at the scene about 4:30 a.m. in the 3100 block of South Damen Avenue in the McKinley Park neighborhood.

Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said two people were taken into custody in the 3600 block of South Honore Street a short time later. Police said the vehicle involved was a Jeep Laredo.
