Man dies after crashing car into Hodgkins beauty supply store

A man crashed his car into a beauty supply store in a Hodkins strip mall and died after possibly becoming ill, authorities said.

Ezell Coleman, 67, of Countryside, was declared dead about 4 p.m. at Adventist LaGrange Memorial Hospital following the crash, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.  He may have become ill while driving, causing the crash, authorities said.

Coleman was driving and crashed into a Sally Beauty Supply shop at 9340 Joliet Road in Hodgkins about 2:54 p.m., said Hodkins Police Lt. Rick Ceplecha. Coleman’s green 1993 Saturday struck the building, which is in a strip mall that includes a Wal-Mart, breaking a window but causing no serious structural damage, Ceplecha said.

Coleman, of the 9900 block of West 58th Street in Countryside, was the only person injured in the crash, Ceplecha said.

An autopsy to determine Coleman’s cause of death was scheduled for Tuesday.
