A man was taken into custody by Chicago Police after he ventured onto an airfield at O'Hare International Airport this afternoon, authorities said.
The incident happened about 3:15 p.m., said Chicago Police News Affairs Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti.
Chicago Department of Aviation spokeswoman Karen Pride released the following statement about the incident:
"This afternoon, an individual was apprehended by Chicago Police on an unauthorized area of the airfield at O'Hare International Airport.
"The incident had no impact on flight operations and posed no apparent threat to the traveling public."
Ursitti, after releasing a similar statement, said that the man had had no weapons, and had not yet been charged, but said she could not pinpoint where the man had gotten onto the airfield.
WMAQ-TV quoted a man who was on a flight awaiting takeoff for Detroit at the time the man jumped a perimeter fence and ran toward the plane.
