Only a freshman, IC Catholic Prep golfer Maddie Hurt established herself in her first high school season as a skilled competitor on the golf course. After placing third at regionals, Hurt went on to tie for third at sectionals and tie for 38th place in the state competition with a total score of 174.

How long have you played golf? Three and a half years.
What do you love most about golf?
Competing. This year was my third year doing Illinois Junior Golf Association (IJGA) tournaments and the Player of the Year race was my favorite part.
What is your biggest challenge this season?
Playing on the boys’ team helped me focus on my distance off the tee and improving my short game.
Do you have any rituals or superstitions when you play?
I wear my Players Service hat during every round.
Who has inspired you most in your athletic endeavors?
My parents inspire me to work hard and always have a positive attitude towards the game.
What is your favorite sports memory?
My favorite memory was when I won an IJGA tournament last year in 2012 and this year qualifying for the state finals in Decatur, Il.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
I like LPGA player Stacy Lewis because I love the way she plays and she is so calm on the course.
What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside golf?
I enjoy hanging out with friends and babysitting my little cousins.
