Lovie Smith's breakthrough season ended with a thud. The Bears entered the postseason boasting the league's best scoring defense, allowing just 12.6 points per game. That was out the window in the first half, as the Panthers jumped out to a 16-7 halftime lead. The Bears never seemed to adjust against speedy receiver Steve Smith, who torched Charles Tillman and the Cover-2 defense for 218 yards on 12 catches, including two touchdowns.
