Smith, in his second season, flip-flopped his record from his first season, from 5-11 to 11-5. One publication predicted the Bears would go 3-13. That prediction looked to be dead on, as the Bears started 1-3. But Smith made sure his team didn't sink, with eight wins in a row following the horrendous start.
