'The Lockout: A Musical' for NBA-loving Chicago

Tribune reporter

Giving Chicago's credentials as a sports town and a theater town, this new rock musical may already be a point ahead. "The Lockout: A Musical" will have its world premiere Aug. 23 (previews begin Aug. 17) at the American Theater Company (1909 W. Byron St.), presented by a Chicago group called Six Hours Short Productions. With book, music and lyrics by Ben Fort and Jason Gallagher, directed by Joe Giovanetti, "Lockout" is "loosely based on the 2011 NBA lockout," according to an announcement Wednesday. It's about a "budding bromance" between an owner and player on opposite sides of the labor dispute. Runs through Sept. 15; tickets ($10-$25) and more information at lockoutmusical.com.
