Virginia State Capitol

After a visit to Jefferson Davis' home, Lincoln took a carriage ride past the gleaming white Virginia State Capitol which had been the home of the Confederate Congress. This building, expanded in later years on the sides, is the site of a large equestrian statue of George Washington by Thomas Crawford that Lincoln also saw.
