The Lincoln Park Zoo’s tiny baby klipspringer has a name: Asha.
The zoo said more than 3,600 online votes finalized the title of one of its newest additions, a dwarf antelope born at the zoo at the end of March.
“Asha means hope in Swahili, the native language in East Africa including Congo, Tanzania and Kenya, where klipspringers reside in the wild,” the zoo said Thursday.
Zoo officials said the baby’s mother “was unable to provide the proper care after birth,” but she’s reportedly doing well under the care of the building’s staff until she is released back to her inside an African zoo exhibit. The calf, which is still living behind the scenes, is consuming roughly four bottles a day and weighs about 6.6 pounds — nearly triple her birth weight.
