Plan calls for razing, rebuilding Lexington Market

Lincoln comes ashore

The bridge pillars of Interstate 95 now frame the place where, most probably, Abraham Lincoln came ashore, unheralded and all but unprotected, as Richmond smoldered on April 4, 1865. Mike Gorman, a National Park Service ranger and historian, explains that the President arrived on an out-of-the-way spit of land, crossed a small bridge here and then walked up 17th Street.
