Sighting: Katy Perry visits Art Institute of Chicago

Which Chicago museum did pop star Katy Perry visit after hours Tuesday?

The Art Institute of Chicago stayed open later than usual Tuesday for an extra special guest and nine of her friends.

Pop star Katy Perry and her entourage took an after-hours tour of the Art Institute for about an hour and a half, according to an Art Institute spokeswoman. Perry -- who had the day off from her Prismatic world tour and is scheduled to perform Wednesday in Columbus -- posted several photos from her Art Institute visit on her Instagram account.

“GO SEE THE MAGRITTE EXHIBIT @artinstitutechi,” Perry wrote on Instagram. “It will blow your conventional mind & wake you up from your zombie state!”

In addition to the exhibit featuring work from Belgian artist René Magritte, Perry took a selfie with Grant Wood’s famous American Gothic painting – or as Perry referred to them, “the original goths.”

The most followed personality on Twitter has also reportedly checked out the Mütter museum in Philadelphia, the Salem Witch Museum in Salem, Mass. and the British Museum in London while on tour.

Perry was in Chicago last week for her shows at the United Center Thursday and Friday. During my interview with Perry Thursday, she said she didn't have the best education because her parents were traveling ministers who would pull her out of school. That's where museums come in.

"Now when we're on tour, we make up for it a little bit. Sometimes we'll go to the museums," Perry said. "We'll get a whole tour of something that's interesting. We're always soaking up information and trying to learn along the way."
