Stratton, who was the state's governor from 1953 to 1961, was accused of evading $46,676 in taxes on unreported income from 1957-60. But he was acquitted after a ten-week trial. Stratton died in 2001, and was a member of the Illinois Civil Service Commission at the time of his death.
