Jim Brosnan, big league pitcher and author

Jim Brosnan was traded to the Chicago White Sox in 1963, but he walked away from the game when the team tried to impose restrictions on his writing, his son said. He also pitched for the Cubs in a nine-year Major League career. He book "The Long Season," a diary of the 1959 season, offered a then-revolutionary look at off-limits lives of ballplayers. Brosnan died in Park Ridge on June 28 at the age of 84.
