Get ready to see a different side of the Bears' Jay Cutler, according to his wife, Kristin Cavallari.
Cutler and Cavallari will be playing themselves on Wednesday's episode of FXX's "The League," which sees the couple unknowingly befriend the characters who stole Cavallari's breast milk during a Mommy-and-Me class last season.
"I didn't know what to expect, but (Cutler) was hilarious," Cavallari said Friday over the phone. "He seemed at ease and nailed his lines. He was confident and did a good job. He was a natural."
(The Winnetka-based comedy about a group of fantasy football-obsessed friends has also featured cameos from Cutler's teammate, Matt Forte, and Bears legend Jim McMahon.)
Cutler doesn't show his humorous side very often, but when he does it has been well received. His ad for NFL Women's Apparel was Peyton Manning-esque, and his nod to the Smokin' Jay Cutler website — Cutler posed for a photo with a cigarette hanging from his lips, not unlike the many photo-shopped pictures of Cutler posted on the website — showed he can take a joke.
"People are starting to see a different side of his personality — a more playful, sweet side," Cavallari said. "I get to see it, but he doesn't let everyone else see it. He has a great sense of humor."
In addition to her two appearances on "The League," Cavallari has appeared on "CSI: NY," "Veronica Mars," and "The Middle." She is open to more acting work, but she doesn't want a gig that would keep her away too long from Cutler and their son, Camden (he's nicknamed "The Cutlet" on "The League" but played by an actor). Besides, she is content focusing on her shoe collection, Chinese Laundry, and her jewelry collection for Glamboutique.com, which aren't as time-consuming and don't require as much travel as acting.
And does Cutler want to do more acting?
"I know he had fun," Cavallari said, "But he did say it can get boring. A lot of people think it's glamorous, but you spend a lot of time waiting around. He had fun when he was working, but he didn't like waiting around."
Cavallari recently made news when she was pulled over for speeding and later tweeted that she was escorted to the police station to post bail because she has a California driver's license and not an Illinois license. The Tribune reported that Cavallari was pulled over for speeding Sept. 6 as she drove into Evanston. Illinois law requires anyone who moves to the state to transfer his or her driver's license within 30 days of the move.
"I'm not going to (get an Illinois license)," Cavallari said. "I have a place in California and pay taxes in California. It doesn't make sense for me. We also live in Tennessee — Jay has a Tennessee license. I'm going to run into this situation no matter where I have a license from. But if I don't speed, I won't have a problem."
Heads up: Cavallari will host Akira's 11th annual fashion show, Supersonic Boom, on Oct. 20 at Grossinger City Autoplex in the Goose Island neighborhood. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the YWCA Metropolitan Chicago.
