How long have you played water polo?

Two years club water polo before high school, and four years high school water polo.

What do you love most about water polo?

The thrill of the competition and that it is a fast-paced, high-scoring game. I also like that it is a team-oriented sport unlike swimming, which is more of an individual sport.

What are your goals for this season? How will you achieve them?

My main goal this season is to make it to state. We have been working hard as a team to prepare for sectionals.

What are you looking forward to most this season?

Having fun with all the guys on the team. I like being a captain because I have been on the team for so long and it gives me a chance to be a leader. I try to be a good role model to all the underclassmen.

Do you have any rituals or superstitions when you play?

Our team has a special cheer that we do before each game [that] helps us get pumped up.

Who has inspired you most in your athletic endeavors?

My neighbors Sean and Pat Falconer because they initially got me interested in water polo. They were both great mentors and taught me a lot about the game. Pat was a senior and the captain my freshman year and I have always looked up to him. My cap is No. 6 which was the same number as Sean’s.  They are both good role models.

If you didn’t play water polo, what would you be doing?

I love all sports. I played soccer for many years but my love is to be in the water.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Matt Grevers [American swimmer from Lake Forest] because he is an Olympic Champion and also I feel I have a connection to him because he swam and played water polo in high school. He is from our same water polo and swimming conference [North Suburban].

What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside water polo?

I love to golf and ski.

Favorite quote or words to live by:

“Water polo: the stamina of a marathon, the contact of a hockey player, the strategy of chess.”
