Storms move through Chicago area

Isolated but strong storm cells moved through the Chicago area Saturday night.

About 7:45 p.m. they developed northwest and west of Chicago, moving southeast.

Suburbs in the Schaumburg and Carpentersville area were in the path of one of the larger cells, according to the National Weather Service radar. A half-inch of rain fell in Elgin in 10 minutes, while 60 mph winds were recorded near Elgin, according to the Weather Service.

In advance of the storms, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Cook, DuPage, Kane and McHenry counties.
