Charges dropped

Barely 24 hours after being released from Lake County Jail, Jerry Hobbs was introspective and calm when talking to the Chicago Tribune about his 5-year ordeal of being jailed and charged with the murder of his 8-year-old daughter, Laura, and her 9-year-old friend, Krystal Tobias. Hobbs was charged shortly after he reported finding the girls stabbed to death in a Zion park in May 2005. He was released Wednesday morning after prosecutors dropped charges because DNA linked the killings to another man, authorities said.<br>

"It's not about me. It's about my kid. It's about my baby, Laura," said Hobbs, who was driven home by three members of his public defense team. They mostly talked about his case during the 14-hour drive home, he said. They delivered him to his mother at about 2 a.m. Thursday, meeting at a convenience store in Wichita Falls, Texas.
