Man dies after Hermosa neighborhood stabbing

Chicago Police Department

A 38-year-old man died overnight after he was stabbed earlier this week in the Hermosa neighborhood on the city's Northwest Side.

Danny Melendez, of the 5000 block of West Irving Park Road, was pronounced dead at 1:20 a.m. Thursday, a spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner's office said.

He was stabbed about 8:50 p.m. Tuesday in the 2300 block of North Cicero Avenue, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

The man was involved in a fight with a 31-year-old woman when he was stabbed in the leg, police said.

The woman was arrested at the time of the incident, Greer said.

The Cook County state's attorney's Felony Review unit declined to press charges against the woman, and she was released, police said.
