A suspect in the sexual assault of a woman in the back yard of a home in the West Garfield Park neighborhood was caught by West Side police officers after a brief foot chase this morning, police said.
A caller to 911 alerted police to someone screaming for help in the 4000 block of West Wilcox Street about 6:40 a.m., and responding Harrison District officers found a woman in her 30s who had been sexually assaulted, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli.
The victim described her attacker to police, and officers were able to locate a man matching the description. The man ran away from police, and tried to escape by going into a home in the 3800 block of West Jackson Boulevard, but the officers chased him on foot and were able to catch him, Mirabelli said.
The victim was being treated at Mount Sinai Hospital. The suspect is being questioned by police and Area Central detectives are investigating.
