Robert Komosa, 17, of Arlington Heights during the <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PLGEO1001005011200000" title="Rolling Meadows" href="/topic/us/illinois/cook-county/rolling-meadows-PLGEO1001005011200000.topic">Rolling Meadows</a> High School homecoming pep rally in September 1999. Komosa was critically injured October 6, 1999 during an evening football practice. Komosa apparently clipped his head against a large pole at the school fracturing the first and second vertebrae in his neck and also suffering serious head injuries. Komosa was rushed by ambulance to Lutheran General Hospital in <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PLGEO1001005011130000" title="Park Ridge" href="/topic/us/illinois/cook-county/park-ridge-PLGEO1001005011130000.topic">Park Ridge</a> and later flown by helicopter to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
