Katzir, 93, died at his home on May 30, 2009 in Rehovot, Israel. The internationally recognized biophysicist served one tenure, from 1973-1978, spanning both the 1973 <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PLGEO100100602011282" title="Jerusalem (Israel)" href="/topic/international/israel/jerusalem-%28israel%29-PLGEO100100602011282.topic">Mideast war</a> and the visit of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat to Jerusalem in 1977.
