Governor Pat Quinn has ordered flags across the state lowered to half-staff today in honor of a Cook County sheriff's investigator killed while off-duty last week.
Cuauhtemoc Estrada, 50, was fatally shot Friday night in west suburban Bellwood after he intervened in an armed robbery that targeted his daughter and her boyfriend, according to authorities and family members.
Authorities have charged two men in the shooting, which happened in the parking lot outside Bellwood's Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, at 2817 St. Charles Road, where Estrada was hosting a Christmas party for friends and relatives.
Brandon Jackson and Gage Thornton, both 22, were ordered held without bail Monday.
The governor on Tuesday asked that flags across the state be flown at half-staff from sunrise this morning through sunset on Saturday in Estrada's honor.
A wake will be held Friday, Dec. 27 at Russo's Chapel, at 4500 Roosevelt Rd. in Hillside from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
A service will be held Saturday, Dec. 28, at Holy Name Cathedral, 735 N. State St., from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
