Firefighters battle blaze near County Jail

Sean Flynn

An adult and two children suffered smoke inhalation injuries in a fire across the street from the Cook County Jail this morning, according to a Fire Department spokesman.

The three were able to walk out of the building but were transported in good condition for evaluation to Mount Sinai Hospital, Fire Department Commander Sean Flynn said.

The fire broke out at about 6 a.m. in a 3-story wood frame house on the 2500 block of South California Avenue, he said.

Fire crews blocked California Avenue between 25th and 26th streets while they fought the fire.

The fire was extinguished at about 7 a.m., Flynn said.
