An extra-alarm fire gutted a Gage Park neighborhood auto repair shop, authorities said late Sunday.
No injuries were reported in the fire at the auto business in the 5000 block of South Western Avenue, but towering flames that burned through the roof helped collapse at least one wall, Chicago Fire Department officials said.
Firefighters took more than an hour to calm the large flames that could be seen for blocks as nighttime temperatures continued to hover around 80 degrees.
Fire crews put out the 2-11 alarm fire and a hazardous materials response shortly after 11 p.m.
Fire officials didn't say what caused the fire.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
