Patrick Nyarko

The Fire closed out pre-season play with a trophy and a 7-1 record as they topped CD Guadalajara 2-0 for the Desert Diamond Cup championship on Saturday in Tucson, Ariz.

Rolfe was in the starting 11 and played 68 minutes in Saturday’s preseason finale as the Fire beat CD Guadalajara 2-0 to win the Desert Diamond Cup championship. He was replaced in the 69th minute by forward Mike Magee, making his  pre-season debut.

Juan Luis Anangono gave the Fire a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute on a feed from Patrick Nyarko and just missed a second with a header hit the crossbar in the 45th minute. Magee helped set up the second goal in the 89th minute as Quincy Amarikwa collected an insurance tally

After rainy weather throughout the day the game went off under dry conditions at 6:30 p.m. (MT), later than originally scheduled.

Head coach Frank Yallop fielded an all-veteran lineup for the pre-season wrap up.

The Fire return to Chicago and train on Monday at the Bridgeview Sports Dome. They’ll participate in an annual charity kickoff luncheon on Tuesday before departing for Los Angeles to prepare for the opener of the franchise’s 17th season on Sunday at Chivas USA.
