The FBI asked for the public's help today in finding a man who tried to rob a suburban bank but left without any cash after a teller asked about his account.
About 9:25 a.m. on Aug. 2 a man entered a TCF Bank branch at 9343 W. Irving Park Rd. and wrote a demand note on a withdrawal slip, the FBI said in a release.
When the man presented the note to a teller, the bank employee began asking questions about the man's account at the bank. The robber replied he did not have an account at the bank and began mumbling incoherently, the FBI said.
The man grabbed back his demand note and left the bank without any cash. No one was injured.
The FBI release describes the robber as an Hispanic or Mediterranean man 25-35 years old, 5-foot-9 or 5-foot-10 with a medium build. He wore a brown and white plaid shirt, blue jeans, sunglasses and a brown beret with a white stripe.
