A suspected bank robber is in custody after he attempted to rob a bank on the Northwest Side, FBI officials said.

The suspect, who is in his 50s, tried to rob the Liberty Bank, 2392 N. Milwaukee Avenue in the Palmer Square neighborhood at about 2 p.m., said FBI spokeswoman Joan Hyde.

The man was taken into custody by Chicago police who were questioning him at the Shakespeare Chicago police district, Hyde said.

In addition to that bank robbery, two armed men robbed the Banco Popular branch, 3956 W. North Ave., in the Logan Square neighborhood, Hyde said.

The bank robbery happened at 2:17 p.m., and the two men fled with cash, Hyde said. No injuries were reported.
