Elderly Berwyn couple killed in I-355 crash

An 87-year-old man and his 91-year-old wife died Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on northbound I-355 in Will County near Bolingbrook, authorities said.

About 3 p.m. near milepost 13.5, a silver Toyota Tundra pickup truck struck the driver's side door of a red Ford Taurus that was facing westbound in the northbound lanes, the Illinois State Police said in a news release.

The crash killed the driver and passenger in the Taurus, identified by police as Daniel J. Simone, 87, the Ford's driver, and his wife Dimple Simone, 91. The Simones, of Berwyn, were  pronounced dead at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, according to the Will County coroner's office.

An autopsy and examination will be performed Monday, according to the coroner's office.

The driver of the other truck, identified as Evan M. Collins, was taken to an area hospital.

Many other details, including the cause of the crash were not released immediately pending further investigation. Two left northbound lanes of I-355 were closed during the first part of the investigation but had been reopened by about 6:40 p.m., state police said in the release.
