Evanston will hold its first town hall meeting on Twitter this month.
Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl will host the session at 6 p.m. Feb. 15 as the city turns to social media an effort to increase public participation in municipal affairs.
Starting Feb. 8, residents can submit their questions at www.twitter.com/CityofEvanston or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Tisdahl will be discussing economic development and the Safe Summer 2012 initiative in the virtual meeting and then will field previously submitted and live questions.
To participate, Twitter users must include the hashtag #askTisdahl when posing a question. All questions with the hashtag will be included in the selection process. If web users do not yet have a Twitter account, they can visit www.twitter.com to sign up and follow the city at www.twitter.com/CityofEvanston.
Evanston officials say Twitter has been useful for both distributing and collecting information on everything from blizzards to beach closings.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
