Detectives: Man tried to lure girl on Far South Side

Police are warning residents of the Roseland neighborhood about a man who tried to lure a 13-year-old girl into his car as she walked to school Wednesday.

The girl was in the 11200 block of South State Street when the man tried to get her to enter his car about 7:50 a.m., according to a community alert issued today.

The girl was walking north on State Street, heading to school, when she came upon a man parked in a car that was pointed south, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli. The man waved to the girl, and motioned for her to come over to him.

The girl continued walking, and the man drove his car, blocking the sidewalk the girl was on by driving part-way into an alley, Mirabelli said.

When the girl fled, the man put his car in reverse, then fled south.

Police did not have a detailed description of the man, who was believed to between 60 and 70 years old. He was driving a blocky, white, older-model midsized car with tinted windows, possibly manufactured in the late 1990s.

Anyone with information about the man or the incident is asked to call Area South detectives at 312-747-8272, or email area2tip@chicagopolice.org.
