Cubs manager Joe McCarthy, right, with Rogers Hornsby in 1929. McCarthy was credited with turning around the Cubs when he was hired in 1926. He led them to the National League pennant in 1929 but quit a year later. He later won six World Series rings as manager of the Yankees.
