Ryan Dempster hopes to throw off a mound soon but won’t return to the Cubs rotation until right after the All-Star break, at the earliest. The "second half" begins for the Cubs July 13.
“I feel great, completely pain free,” Dempster said Friday morning as prepared for a long toss session. He is recovering from a latissimus dorsi strain. "It won't take long after I get going."
“Everything has been on schedule (for recovery),” manager Dale Sveum said. “But there’s no timetable for anything yet.”
Of course, the Cubs have shopped Dempster on the trade market but said they would not trade him while he is on the disabled list. The interleague trade deadline is July 31.
