Grieving mothers

Gloria Padron (second from right) is comforted by her husband Jose following a news conference Sunday at St. Sabina Church on Chicago's South Side by mothers who lost their children to street violence. Padron's son, Anthony, was killed during street violence on July 20, 2004. The mothers made statements on Mother's Day to urge the government officials to take action to prevent violence. They also defended Rev. Michael Pfleger's action to hoist an American flag upside down outside his church to protest the spate of violence among the young in Chicago.Tribune photo by Kuni Takahashi
