A Crystal Lake man died early this morning following an off-road racing bike crash on April 13 near the northwest suburb, authorities said.
Kyle R. Pratt, 23, of the 900 block of Whitehall Way in Crystal Lake, was pronounced dead at 12:32 a.m. at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Emergency crews responded to Terra Cotta Road south of Nunda Trail in unincorporated Crystal Lake at 5:21 p.m. on April 13 for a motocross crash, according to a statement from the McHenry County Sheriff's Office dated April 15.
They found Pratt had been driving a 2002 Suzuki RM Motocross eastbound on ComEd property beneath high voltage power lines and lost control of the bike for an unknown reason, according to the statement. Pratt was ejected from the bike, which ended up plowing into a chain-link fence.
Pratt, who was not wearing a helmet, was initially taken to Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry and later flown to Lutheran General, the statement said.
Autopsy results were not available immediately.
