Cops wound man who was firing shots on Southeast Side

Chicago police wounded a man who was firing shots on the street in the East Side neighborhood, authorities said.

Officers spotted the man in the 11000 block of South Avenue M just after 2 a.m., police said in a statement.

The gunman fled the scene in a car and the officers pursued, police said. During the chase, the suspect's car struck a squad car joining the pursuit, police said.

The gunman got out of the car and was shot in the leg by an officer, police said. He was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital, police said.

No officers were reported injured.

The Independent Police Review Authority was investigating the shooting.
